The Albany Lawyer Is Moving

Yes, the rumors are true. The Albany Lawyer is moving to Florida.

I passed the Florida Bar Exam in February. I have to take another test in August, submit a ton of paperwork, and hope to be admitted in Florida sometime around the end of this year. I may or may not start taking cases there.

The plan is to continue managing our cases here, and to work on building up our traffic court directory and other websites.

Oklahoma Playing Dirty

Just a quick hit on the Florida-Oklahoma game. Oklahoma is playing dirty. There was a horse-collar tackle on a FL running back (#3) - no call and it took him out of the game. A wicked facemask on Demps (FL #2) as he neared the end zone - called but just a nasty facemask. There was the uncalled and obvious cheap shot on Harvin (FL #1) when the Oklahoma defender yanked his legs after the tackle. And I saw a few cheap shots on Tebow too. One to the head, and another where the OU defender dropped a knee on Tebow's back after the play was over. The refs didn't call those. Tebow being the Man of Steel, he didn't notice either. But I did.

Of course the refs did find time to penalize Florida for excessive celebration once and a very weak taunting call on Tebow. Apparently an ACC crew that must hate the SEC.

I was also amazed at Demps' field speed on one play. Harvin had a long run in the first half, and Demps blazed ahead of him and blocked a defender.

I'm not sure Tebow is an NFL quarterback -- they tend not to like star QBs running hard up the middle. But he's clearly the MVP of college football this year.

Before the game I thought USC had an argument for being #1. Now, as the game appears to be out of reach, it's pretty clear that Florida deserves the title.

Florida Speeding Tickets

Just added a page to the Redlich Law Firm website about Florida speeding tickets There seems to be a lot of tickets written there, so much so that I saw a TV show (or internet version of a TV show) about one of the traffic courts there.

Interesting thing for us concerns how we handle NY tickets for Florida drivers. A common reduction on speeding tickets in NY is the infamous 1110a. This appears to count for more points in Florida than a simple speed. NY lawyers who represent FL drivers should be careful about that.

Traffic Court Hits 75K

Our traffic court website reached a new level the other day, with over 75,000 visits and over 65,000 unique visitors in 31 days. There were nearly 170,000 pageviews as well.

We've been adding courts in a few states. Our California traffic courts page now covers 23 counties, and the Los Angeles traffic courts page has become one of the busiest pages on the site. I'm not sure why, but the Alhambra court page is one of the top court pages.

We've also gotten a good start on Houston on our Texas courts page. Texas is, of course, a huge state, and there's an awful lot of courts there.

I went to college in Houston, and grad school in California, so I have a bit of a personal attachment to these areas.

Finally, a family member has been adding traffic courts in Florida. He's doing a great job. We still have a long way to go in terms of traffic though. It seems like our pages do better over time. CT now gets over 7000 page views a month, and MA gets over 5000. Florida is still at 1000 or so, and Texas (which we just started) isn't close to that yet. Rhode Island still gets more than Florida.
